How do I get Started?

Call us. We are happy to help with all aspects of implementing digital study models into your practice. We will email you a “Starter Kit”, which will give clear instructions complete with step-by-step pictures detailing how to install the Orthoviewer software, receive cases, and navigate the Orthoviewer.

What is the cost for software and setup?

The software is free! The only cost to you is 10-15 minutes of your time for setup and walk through.

Should I send models or impressions?

We accept both types of records.

What impression material should I use?

Any material will work. If you use alginate, wrap the impression in a damp towel.

What type of trays can I use?

Any tray will work, however, trays specifically designed for orthodontics will capture the muscle structure within the vestibule.

How quickly will my digital study models be ready?

Another advantage of digital study models over traditional soaped stone models is the return time. Digital study models will be available for you to view 3-5 days after we have received your models or impressions.

How will I receive the 3D digital models once they are finished?

You will receive an email containing a link to your case.

What is ‘Box.com’?

Box.com is a HIPPA compliant software that makes sharing large files between the lab and your office easy and secure.

What do I get back with my case?

Enclosed in each folder file is a “.stl” 3D file and a printable PDF file. After you save your case, it is available to be seen with your Orthoviewer. The PDF includes six views of the case in a 1:1 ratio.

What is a ‘.stl’ file?

An ‘.stl’ is a file extension that stands for Stereolithography. This is the file type that can be produced by orthodontic scanners.

How much space does a case take up on my computer?

Each case takes up between 3 and 6 megabytes.

How long will my Digital Study Models be stored?

Your digital study models .stl file can be saved on your system for you to keep as long as you wish.

Should I send a bite registration? If so, what kind?

If you send a bite, it will only give better results. We accept any type of bite.

Can you integrate with our management system?

Digital study models integrate with most Ortho Software Management systems including OrthoTrac and Dolphin.

Can I rotate, occlude, and zoom in on the 3D model?

Absolutely! With our free OrthoViewer software, you can freely rotate, flip and zoom in on the models. Tooth size and arch width are also measured.

How much training is required to use the OrthoViewer program?

The OrthoViewer is user-friendly. In a short time, you will rotate models, check occlusion and measure arch width and length. We will send you a guide detailing all the Orthoviewer functions.

What is the difference between “Standard” and “Premium” digital study model options?

Both the Standard and Premium digital study models are mounted on ABO study model bases. The Standard option does not include digital repair of model blemishes such as large holes and broken teeth.
