In this tips, tricks and helpful hint series we are covering elastics. In part 2 of this 5 part series we cover vertical elastics.
Typically you will use vertical elastics to bring lower posterior teeth up. You can also use this same concept if you want to bring upper teeth down. In order to achieve this we visit the principal of anchorage. Meaning whatever we are trying to keep in place needs to be stronger than whatever we are trying to move. In the case of moving lower posterior teeth up we will use a heavier archwire on the top and attach the elastic to 2 teeth on the upper arch.
