Memory Gear Expanders
The Memory Gear Expander series features two different types of appliances, the Adjustable Memory Gear and the Self-Activating Memory Gear. They both look like a RPE or Hyrax expander with the addition of Nickel Titanium MEMORIA® leaf springs. The biomechanical action of this expander series is due to the super-elastic properties of the Nickel Titanium unique leaf shaped springs, which release controlled and continuous force. Both gears come in either 6mm or 9mm sizes. The Adjustable Memory Gear Expander will open half way, then can be reactivated the additional half. For example, the 9mm size will expand 4.5mm then can be reactivated up to an additional 4.5mm for a total of 9mm. To reactivate, simply turn the gear just like a normal RPE or Hyrax gear (10 turns equals 1mm). The Self Activating Memory Gear Expander does not need any periodic reactivation at all. Because the appliance will activate to the full 6 or 9mm once placed, it is important to indicate which size gear to use in fabrication.
